Dr. Steven obtained his PhD in 1984, started his academic career at the University of Waterloo (1984-1986), and moved to the University of Guelph (1986-2007).  He has been a professor in the School of Business at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) since 2007.  In his time at Guelph, Dr. Cronshaw played a major role in establishing and administering MA and PhD Programs in Industrial/Organizational Psychology in the Department of Psychology.  In 1993, he founded a highly successful consulting company in affiliation with the Department of Psychology, University of Guelph, to provide applied experience to graduate students and he served as Chair of the Board for the company until 2007.  From 1995-2007, he worked with others at the University of Guelph and four Icelandic institutions to set up and run the Iceland-Guelph Exchange Program. He received a distinguished professor teaching award from the University of Guelph Faculty Association in 1994 and has been nominated in 2009 by the Canadian Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology for the Canadian Psychological Association’s Distinguished Contribution to Education and Training in Psychology.  Dr. Cronshaw was elected as a fellow of the Canadian Psychological Association in 2002. Since beginning at the University of Northern British Columbia in 2007 and teaching in the HRM area, he has assisted in development of the new HRM major at UNBC and has led the initiative of the School of Business to design and implement a Master of Science program in Business Administration. Dr. Cronshaw is a proud member of Shell-Glen Volunteer Fire Rescue.

Research Interests

Dr. Cronshaw has conducted research and published in the areas of job analysis, leadership, utility analysis, personnel selection, and human rights in employment.  His present scholarly efforts are devoted to developing a theory of work ecology. In this work, he traces the development of modern work to its roots in the complex interplay of human evolution since the origin of our species and sociocultural developments since the advent of the city state.  He shows that the ecological processes fundamental to adaptation and functioning in the modern workplace are isomorphic with, and are analytically derivable from, human capabilities enabled through human evolutionary and cultural history.
