Biographic Information
An
economic development professional since 1990, Charles' primary focus
has been to help the owners and managers of small and medium-sized
enterprises to strategically position their firms, handle rapid growth,
enter new markets, and get out of trouble. An entrepreneur himself
since 2002, his work with firms centers on market entry, expansion and
securing capital, while his work with communities is primarily in
economic diversification. In addition to managing his own firm,
Charles has also managed several key regional initiatives, including:
- a mentoring service that assisted value-added forestry firms to expand (Community Futures of Fraser Fort George, 1999-2000),
- a regional trade promotion office (Export Prince George, 2002-2007); and
- a cluster development initiative focused on Clean Technology firms (Innovation Resource Centre, 2008-2009).
In
these capacities he has led or coordinated trade delegations from
Northern BC to the USA, China, Russia, the Philippines, Chile and Peru,
as well as put together full programs for incoming trade delegations
from a wide variety of countries.
Charles began teaching at
the University of Northern British Columbia's business school in
1999, and became faculty in 2003. He specializes in marketing,
entrepreneurship and international business.
Northern BC has been home for Charles and his wife Susan since 1993.
