Check out the story of UNBC researcher Roy Rea (pictured above with Doug Therrien of Excel Transportation) and the new
GPS units that local truckers are using to track sightings of deer and moose
along central interior highways.

Paul Bowles and Don Munton with their new books. Don's book is on the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, co-authored with David Welch of UofT. It attempts to provide an accessible short history of the event, taking into account recently released documents that shed new light on what happened. It has sold about 2000 copies since July.
Paul Bowles has contributed to a series of books on "big ideas." His topic is Capitalism and joins other titles exploring such issues as environmentalism, feminism, and (soon to released) terrorism.

Luke Borserio from Queen Charlotte City is one of 34 first year students attending university as a UNBC Scholar. Luke likes the friendliness of the UNBC community and the small class sizes.
Posters of each scholar will be sent to their respective home high schools and communities to promote the UNBC Scholar program and UNBC.

Marathoners in the School of Business
Commerce student Nathan Doering ran in the Royal Victoria Marathon, October 8, 2006 with a
SUB-3 time of 2 hours 58 minutes to successfully qualify for the prestigious Boston Marathon . . . meanwhile accounting professor Wendy Fellers managed to cross the finish line with a SUB-5 time of 4 hours 57 minutes.

Programmer Analyst, Arlen Fleury, outdid all other entries in the Hallowe'en Costume Contest sponsored by NUGSS by winning "Best Costume Overall" and a $50 gift certificate from Future Shop.
International Recognition

MBA grad Morris Bodnar has earned international recognition for his paper on marketing strategies for Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP). He submitted the winning entry in a competition organized by the Pacific Telecommunications Council. Morris, who works for Industry Canada in Prince George, will present his paper at a PTC conference in Hawaii early next year.
Where Are They Now?
- Colleen Bowers (BSN Nursing '04) is pursuing a Master of Leadership at Royal Roads University in Victoria.
- Onkar Buttar (BA Geography '04) is working with the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George as a GIS Technician.
- Toni Carlton (BA History '99) coordinates the Peer Counselling Program at the First Nations Centre at UNBC and will be pursuing a Masters in First Nations Studies in September '07.
- David Russell (BA Anthropology '00) works for School District #33 in Chilliwack as a BCeSIS. He manages the migration of the School District from its legacy Student Information System (SIS) to the new, province wide system: the British Columbia enterprise Student Information System (BCeSIS).
