The UNBC Northern Timberwolves recently won the BCCAA Provincial Basketball title! Next up, Nationals!
What a year. 2009-10 has been a break-out year for the Northern Timberwolves men’s basketball team: a #1 national ranking, a 17-1 season, undefeated at home, BC coach of the year, BC rookie of the year, BC’s player of the year, and provincial championship. Next up, Nationals.
Provincials – March 4-6 UNBC went into the tournament as the #1 seed and didn’t disappoint. But it wasn’t easy. They had to overcome a 9-point half-time deficit in the final to defeat the host Vancouver Island University Mariners by a score of 84-65. It was the first provincial championship for the men’s team. See the photos from the gold medal game.
Nationals – March 18-20 The 2010 national championship will be held at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary. Click here for tournament information. UNBC’s first game will be Thursday, March 18, at 1pm.

Gill, Madsen, and Raimbault
Individual Awards In addition to team achievements, the Northern Timberwolves can boast BC’s basketball player of the year, rookie of the year, and coach of the year. Inderbir Gill took the top award and also scored the Tournament MVP at the recent provincials. He was second in league scoring and assists during the regular season, averaging just over 19 points per game. Kevan Madsen of Prince George was the top rookie and Mike Raimbault, in only his second year as UNBC bench boss, took home the coach of the year honours.
