Jen Clyne named to CCAA All-Canadian Team
March 14, 2012
This evening at the Women’s CCAA All-Canadian banquet in Lethbridge, AB, 5th year UNBC forward Jen Clyne was named to the CCAA All-Canadian team. Clyne led the Timberwolves in scoring with 17 points and added 4.21 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for the 2012 PACWEST Champions. The Prince George native and business student has also been named to the PACWEST’s 1st All-star team and was recently named as a CCAA Athlete of the Month for February.

 
Timberwolves ready to go at CCAA Nationals
March 14, 2012
Though three timezones separate the Timberwolves men's and women's basketball teams both are looking forward to getting things underway at their respective 2012 CCAA Basketball National Championships.  This is the first time that both the Timberwolves teams have earned spots at the Nationals in the same year.
 
Tomorrow at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, NS, the #1 seeded UNBC men's team will take on the #8th seeded Kings from Red Deer College. Game time is 9:00am PST on Thursday morning. To stay up to date on the men's tournament click here.
 
The UNBC women enter their National Championship tournament in Lethbridge as the #3 seed and face the Ontario champion, #6 Algonquin Thunder. The game will start at 7:00pm PST on Thursday. To follow the women's tournament click here.



Double Gold for Timberwolves!

The UNBC men's and women's basketball teams are coming back to Prince George with gold medals! The lady T-Wolves played their best game of the year and came out on top of a strong VIU team with a 62-53 win. The women were led by PACWEST tournament MVP Mercedes van Koughnett with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. With the win the Timberwolves will be booking their tickets to the CCAA Nationals in Lethbridge, AB March 15-17. 
 
Not to be outdone, the men beat VIU 69-61 in a very tight defensive game.  The T-Wolves had great performances from Sam Raphael (16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists) and Tournament MVP Francis Rowe (16 points, and 3 rebounds).  Next up is a trip to Truro NS for the CCAA Nationals, March 15-17. This will be the 4th year in a row that the UNBC men have represented BC on the national stage.

UNBC Men's Basketball team playing for gold
March 2, 2012

The UNBC mens basketball team battled over the course of a well fought game and came out on top with a 93-84 win over the Camosun Chargers. The T-Wolves were led by Charles Barton with 20 points and 8 rebounds.  Sam Raphael added 19 points.

With the win the Timberwolves advance to the PACWEST gold medal game tomorrow night at 8pm. The men will play VIU, who beat the home team Capilano Blues by a score of 67-57.

With both the UNBC women's and men's teams vying for gold tomorrow it promises to be an exciting day for the T-Wolves and all the passionate UNBC fans who made the trip to North Vancouver.

 
Lady Timberwolves off to the PACWEST Final
March 2, 2012
In the first of two matchups between UNBC and Camosun today at the PACWEST championships, the lady T-Wolves beat the Camosun Chargers by a score of 71-48. Leading the way for the T-Wolves was player of the game Sarah Robin with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Kady Dandeneau added 14 points and 9 rebounds.
 
With the win the Timberwolves will face the womens team from VIU at 6pm tomorrow in the gold medal game. The winner will represent PACWEST at the CCAA Nationals in Lethbridge, AB March 15-17.

 
Timberwolves vs Chargers in both PACWEST semi-finals
March 2, 2012
After an exciting first day of quarterfinal action at the PACWEST basketball championships at Capilano University the semi-finals are set. On the women's side of the draw, at 1pm today the #1 seeded VIU Mariners take on the #3 Capilano Blues. Following the first semi-final the #1 Timberwolves will tip off against the #5 Camosun Chargers. 
 
The #2 UNBC men's team will get their playoffs going at 6pm vs the #3 Camosun Chargers. While the #1 men's VIU team will do battle against the #5 Capilano Blues at 8pm.

T-Wolves finish PACWEST regular season on winning note
February 18, 2012
The men's and women's Timberwolves basketball teams both ended their last PACWEST regular season campaigns with wins over Langara and Kwantlen. On Friday night, the #8 CCAA ranked women beat Langara by a score of 66-41. The men followed up against the Falcons with a thrilling 98-94 double overtime win. 
 
On Saturday night the UNBC women had an opportunity to lock up first place in the standings and did just that with an 87-50 win over Kwantlen. The win earns the T-Wolves a bye into the PACWEST Championship semi-finals at 3:00pm on March 2nd at Capilano University.
 
The #12 CCAA ranked UNBC men also secured a bye into the PACWEST Championship semi-finals with a 92-72 win over Kwantlen. They will play at 6:00pm on March 2nd, also at Capilano University. 

 

Final home games of the year for the T-Wolves
February 1, 2012
This Friday and Saturday night, Timberwolves basketball returns to the NSC for the final time this season. On Friday night, the Capilano Blues make their way to Prince George to take on the T-Wolves. Game times are 6:00pm for the women and 8pm for the men. On the men’s side, the Timberwolves will look to earn their first win of the season against the Blues. Capilano beat UNBC by scores of 91-68 in pre-season and 80-55 in the first half of the regular season. The Blues enter the night with a 6-5 record, while the #12 ranked Timberwolves are 8-2.

The women’s team will look to keep their undefeated season going Friday against the always competitive Blues from North Vancouver. The T-Wolves are currently ranked #3 in the nation with a 10-0 record in PACWEST league play. The UNBC and Capilano (9-2) teams have split their two games this year with UNBC winning the most recent meeting, 78-77 in overtime.

On Saturday the Quest Kermodes are in town. Earlier in the year the lady T-Wolves beat the Kermodes by a score of 81-59. Game time for the women is 6:00pm.  The Quest men’s team will be looking for their first win of the season against the Timberwolves in the 8pm game. Before the exam break the T-Wolves men’s side beat Quest 82-57.

The final home game of the year on Saturday night will also mark UNBC Senior Night.  This year UNBC will be recognizing 5th year players Jen Clyne, Erin Beckett and Maria Neumann from the women’s team, and Dennis Stark and Lucas Groot from the men’s program. A brief ceremony will take place between the men’s and women’s games.


 
Timberwolves hit the road this weekend
January 20, 2012
The UNBC basketball teams are down in the lower mainland this weekend for a set of games against the Douglas College Royals and the Columbia Bible College Bearcats. Friday night the Lady T-Wolves take on the (1-7) Royals at 6:00pm. In their first match-up of the year, UNBC was victorious by a score of 87-26. The men had a tougher time against the (5-3) Royals, however, still came away with a 92-74 win.Game time is set for 8:00pm at Douglas College.

Saturday will see the UNBC women take on the (0-8) Bearcats at 5pm in Abbotsford. Back in November, the Timberwolves opened the season against CBC with a 119-47 win. The men will tip-off at 7pm against the (1-7) Bearcats. Earlier in the year UNBC beat CBC by a score of 94-42.

Jen Clyne named PACWEST Athlete of the Week
January 18, 2012
Jennifer Clyne, 5th year forward and captain of the Timberwolves, was selected as the women's basketball PACWEST Athlete of the Week. Last Friday night in a 92-43 win versus Kwantlen, Clyne had 20 points while gonig 4/5 from beyond the three point line in just 20 minutes of playnig time. She followed that up with a 10 point, 6 rebound performance in a 90-59 win of the Langara Falcons on Saturday night.

"Jen has been a consistent threat offensively all year and we are happy that she is back, healthy and ready to help our team down the stretch", stated Head Coach Loralyn Murdoch.

 
Timberwolves sweep weekend basketball action
January 16, 2012
The Timberwolves were successful in getting the second half of the PACWEST basketball season off to a great start this past weekend in Prince George. The #3 ranked women's team defended their home court on Friday night with a commanding 92-43 win over the Kwantlen Eagles. Leading the way for the women were Jen Clyne with 20pts and Jen Bruce with 19pts. On Saturday, Kady Dandeneau's 26pt performance helped the T-Wolves to a 90-53 win over the Langara Falcons. The women stay undefeated in PACWEST play this year with an 8-0 record.

The men also looked to get off to a strong start in 2012 and did just that last weekend at the NSC. On Friday, some sharp shooting by Jose Araujo, who scored a team high 24pts, led the T-Wolves to a 92-56 win over the Kwantlen Eagles. The men followed that up with a 83-73 win over the #14 Langara Falcons. Strong performances by Kevan Madsen (21pts and 9rebs) and Sam Raphael (16pts) helped the Timberwolves move into 2nd place in the PACWEST, one game back of the ranked VIU Mariners.

Both teams are on the road next weekend against the Douglas College Royals on Friday and the CBC Bearcats on Saturday. For full league standings visit www.pacwestbc.ca.
 

 
Basketball teams continue PACWEST season this weekend
January 9. 2012
Basketball returns to the NSC this weekend as the second half of the PACWEST basketball season gets underway. Friday night the Timberwolves take on the visiting Kwantlen Eagles. This will be the first match up of the year between the two teams. Game times are set for 6pm and 8pm.

Saturday night will see the Langara Falcons make their one appearance in Prince George this season. Earlier this year in exhibition play, the #4 ranked UNBC women beat Langara 74-61 in Vancouver. The men will be seeking redemption after losing to the Falcons 85-74, also in exhibition play. Game times are again at 6pm and 8pm.

Currently the lady Timberwolves sit at the top of the PACWEST standings with a 6-0 record. After the first semester of play the men are sitting 3rd place with a 4-2 record.
 

 
UNBC women play host to U18 Team Japan
January 3, 2011
After a long winter break the UNBC women's basketball team is prepared to get back on the court January 3rd and 4th against the Under 18 women's Team Japan. The Japanese team arrives in Prince George after defeating the UVIC Vikes and the Camosun Chargers earlier in the week. The 4th ranked Timberwolves will have their hands full with their international opponents, however, the two games set will help prepare the team as they look forward to the continuation of the PACWEST regular season.

Both games are proudly presented by the Sandman Hotel Group. Game times are set for 7:00pm at the Northern Sport Centre.
 

 
T-Wolves sweep CBC Bearcats at home to open season
November 11, 2011
Prince George, BC - Another opening night at the Northern Sport Centre and another sweep for the Timberwolves. Thelady T-Wolves beat the visiting Columbia Bible College Bearcats by a score of 119-47. Fifth year captain, Jen Clyne, led the way for the women with 20 pts, while 3rd year Chelsey Thorne and 2nd year Sarah Robin eached chipped in with 15pts.

In the men's game, the Timberwolves were paced by Jose Araujo's 23 pts, which included a 7-13 shooting performance from beyond the three point line. The final score was UNBC 94 - CBC 42.

Both UNBC teams are 1-0 in PACWEST league play and continue their homestand tomorrow against the Royals from Douglas College. Game times are 6pm and 8pm at the NSC.
 

 
Men's soccer falls to Capilano in PACWEST semi-finals
October 29, 2011
Kelowna, BC - The Timberwolves come up short against the Capilano Blues in PACWEST men's soccer semi-final action this evening at UBCO in Kelowna by a score of 1-0. After a scoreless first half the Blues were able to get a shot passed 5th year keeper Kyle Flannagan in the 80th minute of play. Player of the game for the T-Wolves was 5th year full-back Scott DeBianchi.

The men are back on the field tomorrow as they take on the hosts (UBCO) in a battle for the bronze medal. Game time at Nonis Field on the UBCO campus is set for 1:00pm.
 

 
Men's soccer heading to the PACWEST Championships
October 26, 2011
Prince George, BC - The UNBC men's soccer team has earned a first round bye at this weekend's PACWEST Championships hosted by UBCO in Kelowna. After finishing the year with a 6-2-4 record, the men secured top spot in Group A allowing them a pass into Saturday's semi-final game. The T-Wolves will play against the winner of the quarterfinal match-up between Capilano and Langara at 6pm on Saturday at Nonis Field on the UBCO campus. Leading the team into the playoffs will be 2011 PACWEST 1st team all-star and 5th year captain, Scott DeBianchi who once again led the strong back line of the Timberwolves. Also earning a 2nd team All-star nod this year was 1st year fullback Michael Norgren.

The men's soccer team was also awarded with the Mike Bartram Fair Play award.
 

 
Final home games for 5th year players

Prince George, BC - This weekend marks an important milestone for the UNBC soccer teams. For the first time in program history the men's and women's soccer teams will be graduating 5th year student-athletes who have spent their entire post-secondary athletic career at UNBC. Come out this weekend to the NCSSL fields to see Andrea Bertulli, Kyle Flannagan and Scott DeBianchi for the last time on their home turf. Saturday games times are 12pm (women) and 2pm (men) against the Kwantlen Eagles. Sunday game times are 12pm (women) and 2pm (men) vs Douglas College.
  

Canada West Says "Yes" to UNBC!

Canada West LogoThe Canada West Universities Athletics Association has voted in favour of the University of Northern British Columbia’s most recent application for full membership. A special meeting was called last week to revisit the University of Northern British Columbia’s membership application. The positive outcome of this most recent vote means that UNBC will compete in Canada’s top university athletic association in both basketball and soccer. UNBC will begin play in men's and women's soccer and basketball in September 2012
