Graduating with Your Degree

Students are expected to submit an application for graduation online through their Student Online Services account. The online application for graduation is open between July 1-April 30 annually for the annual May Convocation ceremony held on the last Friday in May.

UNBC now confers (grants) degrees three times per academic year, after each semester.

  • For students completing degree requirements between May and August, degree conferral will occur in September. The deadline to be included in this conferral is the last day of exams for the May-August semester. The Registrar’s Office must receive all outstanding grades and/or any required paperwork before this date.
  • For students completing degree requirements between September and December, degree conferral will occur in January. The deadline to be included in this run is the last day of exams for the September-December semester. The Registrar’s Office must receive all outstanding grades and/or any required paperwork before this date.
  • For Students completing degree requirements between January and April, degree conferral will occur in May. The deadline to be included in this run is April 30th. The Registrar’s Office must receive all outstanding grades and/or any required paperwork before this date.

There will be three fixed ‘graduation’ dates that will coincide with the monthly Senate meetings in September, January, and May. The Senate meeting dates are published annually in the University Calendar.

Parchments will be printed after each semester and will reflect the degree award date (month) as appropriate, depending on which month the degree is ‘granted’ (September, January, or May). Eligible students will have the option of receiving their parchment prior to the Convocation ceremony.

If this is your first time applying to graduate, please apply online through your myUNBC account (and see our FAQ for more information). If you are an undergraduate student who has applied to graduate previously with the same curriculum, or a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) student obtaining a Specialization, please use this form to apply to graduate (convocate) for the Convocation ceremony in May. Make sure the fee is paid at the Cashier’s Office, and then submit the completed form to the Office of the Registrar.

If this is not your first time applying to graduate, please fill out the Application for Undergraduate Students form.
