  Student Advising - Academic Difficulties

Throughout your university life you will experience academic difficult and this can affect your success.  As students you often have external factors – such as family issues, illness or work and extra-curricular commitments that can be a stumbling block. Whether you experience exam anxiety, need help with time management, searching for a tutor for a class, or have an unexpected illness or family emergency we are here to help. There are several services and resources on campus to help you achieve your goals.

Peer Support Network
Academic Probation occurs when your Cumulative Grade Point Average falls below 2.00 at the end of a semester. Visit your Student Advisor for strategies for success and raising your GPA. We have created a tip sheet to provide you with information about Academic Probation.
The Health & Wellness Centre provides students with Counselling Services, Health Services and Wellness Programs. Services include Physician Clinics and Nurse Services, Health Education, Counselling and Exam Buster activities on campus.

Library Services
The Academic Success Centre provides students with a variety of student support services to help you succeed. Do you need a tutor for a class? Would you like to attend a free workshop on time management or study skills? 
The Access Resource Centre is committed to providing access and reasonable accommodations for academically qualified persons so that, whenever possible, such persons may be included in all aspects of the University experience. Services include assessment of needs, assistive technology, funding and grant information and supporting student accessibility in classrooms. 
The UNBC Library is a great resources for student and is home to not only academic journals and reference books but also hosts a wide range of student services. They even have a roving librarian equipped with an iPad that will come to you. If you have a question about researching for a paper, need to request a resource from another library or want to book a quiet study room visit the library. 
 
Fresh Start Program
Requirement to Withdraw
For students that have been placed on Academic Probation we provide support through the Fresh Start Program. Please see your Student Advisor for details and program events.
If a student continues on Academic Probation for more than 30 credit hours then they may be Required to Withdraw from the university for a period of time. If you are required to withdraw please see your Student Advisor as soon as possible for information, we are here to help.
