UNBC's power plant provides heating and cooling to the core campus buildings. Its central location is key to realizing goals for increased energy efficiency on campus.
Although the power plant uses natural gas for heating the campus, most of this is off set by the University's Biomass Gasification System that has reduced UNBC's use of non-renewable energy by 85 percent.
